Our Story

Founded in 1991 by Sean M. Gallivan with just one dump truck on his family’s farm near Troy, New York, SM Gallivan has grown into a diversified company serving the Northeastern United States. From humble beginnings, Sean’s vision expanded into truck transportation, landscape supply manufacturing, wood waste recycling, concrete and asphalt crushing. SM Gallivan also owns and operates sand, gravel, and stone quarries throughout NYS.

At SM Gallivan, we have developed our logistics and transportation services alongside our landscape supply business, ensuring timely and professional service to customers across New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Operating our own fleet allows us to manage deliveries of bulk and bagged products in-house, making our fleet an integral part of the customer experience. We also specialize in heavy equipment transport, with lowboys, drop decks, beams, flatbeds, and rollback trucks to safely and efficiently move equipment of any size.

Our team can Custom Blend Engineered Soils to meet project-specific needs, from bioretention soils to unique topsoil mixes. We also operate wood waste recycling centers, transforming yard and forest byproducts into mulch and compost additives instead of sending them to landfills. Contractors benefit from our on-site crushing and screening services, turning debris into quality aggregate for site redevelopment — saving time, money, and resources.

In 2011, SM Gallivan expanded with our sister company, Green Renewable, producing bagged mulch and soils for sale throughout the Northeast. Three strategically placed manufacturing facilities across New York ensure we meet the demands of our customers efficiently.
